Stackable Sculpture

These abstract geometric shapes are meant to be an interactive sculpture where they can be stacked together in a varying combinations and towers. While there are similar themes amongst the shapes, they are all unique. Some colors include only one piece while other colors have up to four separate pieces. I created these sculptural objects using the scribble tool to draw each individual shape. If this piece were to be fabricated, I would separate the layers and have them print as individual pieces, with no two shapes touching each other. I played with the idea of having them be various heights, but decided that I liked the consistency of all shapes being the same height to allow a sense of balance no matter the configuration of the pieces.

Here is a second version of the sculpture where the shapes are not stackable or adjustable. I have instead interlocked the shapes together into permanent sculptural pieces. I felt that using a predominant color was most effective with this version because the interlocking and overlapping of the planes is more visually confusing and using mostly a single color helps to unify the piece and provide a clearer structure and concept to the viewer. While I enjoyed experimenting with this version and playing with interlocking the forms, I prefer the original interactive idea with the variety of colors and the variety of possible combinations that the piece could take on.
